Founded by Michelle Lutz, Mom’s Off Duty Co. is a social club with La Quinta & Coachella Valley based events and meetups with the tagline “cool moms doin’ fun things.” From coffee to pottery to themed bowling outings, Mom’s Off Duty Co. is the perfect place for moms to get away, have fun, and recharge!
We got together with Michelle to pick her brain about this exciting venture, how it came to be, and how it’s helping her and other La Quinta (and beyond) moms.

When did you start your Moms Off Duty Co.?
I launched Moms Off Duty Co. in January 2024, right in the middle of navigating my own early motherhood journey.
Like so many new moms, I was trying to balance everything while also realizing how much I missed pieces of myself.
Creating Moms Off Duty Co. was my way of carving out space for moms to connect, recharge, and remember that they’re more than the never-ending to-do list.
We just love your name! How did you come up with it?
The name came from the feeling I wanted moms to have when they walked into a Moms Off Duty Co. space—free, light, and momentarily “off the clock.”
Moms are always on duty, whether it’s caring for kids, juggling work, or managing the little details that keep a family running. “Moms Off Duty” felt playful but also meaningful—it’s permission to step away from all of that and simply be yourself.

How has La Quinta played a role in its growth and identity?
La Quinta has been such a perfect backdrop for Moms Off Duty because of its small-town charm and sense of connection. There’s something special about casual chats over coffee at Yes, Please! or a quick bite at RD RNNR—it all creates opportunities for connection.
The weekly farmers markets and small shops like Mimi & Rae Boutique add to the charm, giving moms not only a place to shop but also to gather and feel part of something bigger.
La Quinta has that small-town warmth where you get to know your neighbors and the business owners by name, and that has really shaped the identity of Moms Off Duty Co.
And while La Quinta is the heart, moms from Indio, Palm Desert, Coachella, Pam Springs and beyond have joined in too, weaving together a wider Coachella Valley community that’s both welcoming and supportive.

Did you see a need for this in La Quinta and how has Moms Off Duty Co. solved that need?
Absolutely. I saw it in my own life and in the lives of so many moms around me. There are endless activities for families and kids here, but not nearly enough that are just for moms.
Moms Off Duty Co. has filled that gap by creating a welcoming, fun space where moms can laugh, relax, and connect without guilt. It’s about giving moms the opportunity to step back from the demands of everyday life and feel like themselves again.
How has the local community accepted you?
The support has been incredible.
Moms have shown up with open hearts, invited their friends, and really embraced what we’re building. Local businesses have also reached out to collaborate, which has helped strengthen the sense of community around Moms Off Duty Co.
It feels like people see the vision and are excited to be part of it.

Are you originally from Coachella Valley?
I’m not originally from the valley, but it’s been my home for 10 years now. We moved to La Quinta for a career opportunity in teaching. I’ve taught and coached swimming in Coachella Valley which has connected me deeply to the families and community.
That connection made starting Moms Off Duty Co. feel natural—it’s a way of giving back to the place and people that has given me so much.

What is the best part about running Moms Off Duty Co.?
The best part is seeing moms truly connect and come alive at our events.
Whether it’s a spa day, a brunch, or a silly community gathering, those moments where women meet each other and form lasting friendships are priceless. Hearing moms tell me that they met a new friend or found a support system at one of our events is incredibly rewarding.
Watching someone walk in feeling tired or overwhelmed and leave glowing with laughter, connection, and a renewed sense of themselves—it’s the reminder of why I started Moms Off Duty Co. in the first place.
What makes your Moms Off Duty Co. unique from other mom’s groups?
Moms Off Duty Co. stands out because it’s equal parts playful and meaningful. We’re not just about checking a self-care box—we’re about creating joyful, empowering experiences that remind moms of their worth.
Our vibe is vibrant, bold, and unapologetically fun, but it’s also grounded in empathy and connection.
It’s a mix of sparkle and heart, which makes it feel both refreshing and real.

What do you see for the future of Moms Off Duty Co.?
I see it evolving into more than just a local gathering—it’s becoming a lifestyle.
My vision includes launching a loungewear line designed with moms in mind, hosting annual retreats where moms can completely unplug, and continuing to expand the community beyond Coachella Valley.
The goal is always the same: to give moms spaces where they feel celebrated, connected, and truly off duty. “Co.” is a reminder that this isn’t just about a lifestyle and future brand—it’s about building a movement of community and connection for moms everywhere.
